Awww, these precious 80s & 90s knitting magazines!

80s knitting magazines by thisblogisnotforyou.com

I got a pile of 80s & 90s knitting magazines from Mr Thisblogisnotforyou’s grandma last year and thought I might share some of the gems I found in there with you guys.Ā That time when magazines were named after woman’s names… “Diana”, “Ingrid”, “Constanze” and “Anna”, hehe!

I was actually surprised to find quite a few sweaters that would still (or rather, again) be considered as ‘pretty cool’ today. I would love to wear these:

Love the white sweater dress and the blazer. Not quite so sure about the shoulder pads and matching hat, though.80s knitting magazines by thisblogisnotforyou.com

Well, and then I found these….

Black is sexy. Yes. But a knitted top with contrasting bow for the little black dress look? Very sexy, indeed!

Send in the clowns! Are they wearing hoodies in the front? Are these bibs? Can someone please explain this to me?

… 2 in 1 rouge and lipstick? Ā Matching the sweater, of course! šŸ™‚Ā (Why is she wearing it on her forehead?)

Hair glitter! I had hair mascara in different colours (eg. green!) when I was little. But what is this? Glitter hair tattoos?

Would you knit & wear any of these?

  1. I thought I was the only one keeping those kind of things… I have some Burda from the Sixties too and I truly adore them!
Well, certainly make-up can’t compete with the 80’s and 90’s issues, but the hairs… oh, the hairs LOL

    1. Wow, Burdas from the 60s! Now I’m jealous! I still looking for some from the 50s/60s and can’t find them anywhere! Where did you get them? Did you ever use one of these patterns?

      1. My mom was throwing them away…. I stopped her and took them home! I’ve sewn something from them some time ago but now pattern sheets are so thin that I think they will break if I trry to trace off something… So I only look at the pages with photos here and there (I took inspiration from there when I’ve drawn my Mod lined Dress – the one I share the pattern on my blog)

        1. Thinking whether you’d be able to glue the sheets onto tissue paper or so to make them less fragile? ā™„Charlie

        2. Well, you wouldn’t have to trace them all, just the ones you’d like to sew and glue the ones that are in worst condition on tissue paper. Sometimes copyshops have larger photocopiers,so you might also try and copy the patterns.

        3. That’s even better!! Well, if you ever think you have enough vintage Burdas, send them over, hehe šŸ™‚ This Mod Dress is super cool! I looove the contrasting strip in the front! ā™„

  2. Iā€™m looking for a knitting pattern from the early 1980s that was in a magazine, it may have been McCalls. The sweater was reversible with bobbles on one side, then the stitch created a concave shell on the reverse with a V in the center. It was a beautiful pattern and Iā€™d love to make it again.
