However, if you’re not a big fan of Valentine’s Day, this article might be for you.

Last but not least – for all of you waiting for some more sewing-related posts, be reassured they’re on the way. I had quite a few days off lately and did A LOT of sewing. However, nothing is finished yet since I started several projects instead of finishing the first one. Ooops.

Soo…there will be a cape, one or more dresses, maybe a finished project I started over a year ago and …. yes? MENSWEAR! Yes. Menswear. If I finish to fit that %&$$Ā§%/$ pattern properly. Something is wrong with Mr Thisblogisnotforyou’s arms. That much I can tell you.

Happy Sewing!

Pretty in pink: handmade owl mittens and a beanie

handmade knitted owl mittens by thisblogisnotforyou.comHi everyone! Yes – I’m still alive (and making handmade stuff)!

I was busy working and helping to prepare my brother’s wedding. My sewing machine is covered in dust and my to-sew-list keeps growing relentlessly. But while babysitting a few times a week I still get to knit quite a lot.
I’ve made two beanies, two pairs of mittens and a scarf so far. Working on socks and a third beanie at the moment. Enough wool to get started on a couch blanket is on its way šŸ™‚

I haven’t had time to take pics of all the knitted makes, but here some pics of the pink mittens and beanie I made for my sister-in-law.

You’ll probably have seen these owl mittens already as everyone who knits already made these at least once, after they appeared in the Mollie Makes magazine a few weeks ago.
I used two different wools – the same two colours I used for making this beanie:

It’s a lace & cable pattern I made myself. Unfortunately you can’t really see it in this picture. But I’ll be making at least another beanie with this pattern and will take proper pictures then!

Crafty Fox Market & my October WIPs

Kayleigh O'Mara

Hi everyone!

Yes, I’m still alive. And yes, I’m still busy and need to figure out my new work schedule, sewing and blogging balance. To prove to you that I’m still working hard on my 27 Dresses Challenge, I even took some pics of my Work In Progress *spoiler alert*!

But first of all I wanted to share some of the stuff I admired (and bought) at the Crafty Fox Market in Brixton last Sunday. Daniela from Ela Sews And Doesn’t Sleep invited me to come with her, which was super sweet and if she hadn’t asked me I wouldn’t have known about the Crafty Fox Market in the first place. The location was absolutely wonderful, but I forgot to take pictures.

One of my absolute favourite traders was Kayleigh O’Mara, who sold (next to other things) super cute shrink plastic brooches. After standing in front of the brooches for almost 15 minutes I HAD to buy some. I picked a super cute polar bear and a badger (see pic above).

The polar bear now found its place on my new beanie and I love it!

And yes! You guessed right – my order of shrink plastic arrived this morning! Let’s make some fun jewelry this autumn.

One of the other traders, Forgotten Stitches, sold beautiful vintage-looking dolls. Aww! Unfortunately way out of my budget, but you can check them out here.

By the way, the Crafty Fox Autumn market exhibitors have been selected by guest curators, one of them being Tilly Walnes (you know her fromĀ Tilly and the Buttons).

Other traders I absolutely loved (actually I loved all of them, but these are the very best):

Jimbo ArtĀ had super cute and fun designs – plates, cups and art prints.

Ladybird LikesĀ sold these cute pug and owl collar clips (amongst other things).

For a list of all traders, check out the Crafty Fox website. It’s absolutely worth it! Most of them have web or etsy shops, your chance to get your share of handmade froufrou if you missed the market last weekend!

Now, to prove to you that I’m not just hanging around being lazy and taking a break from blogging, here’s the chance to sneak a peek at my WIPs!

Currently I’m finishing a jacket, working on a dress and refashioning a skirt. Oh, and I started knitting a scarf. You can try and guess what is what in the pictures above. šŸ™‚

Painted Shirt – London Souvenirs

Painted Shirt DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.com

Isn’t this little boy adorable? šŸ™‚

Last weekend I showed my sister, who visited me in London, how to paint a jersey shirt. We had bought this one from Primark’s sale rack and it seemed to be missing something.

We found these adorable Puddin’ the Pug drawings by Jake BarlowĀ online and my sis decided to print one out and use it for her shirt.

This one leaves very pale yellow lines on the fabric you can easily paint over.Painted Shirt DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.comWe traced the yellow marking lines with a fabric marker and then used black fabric paint and a small paint brush.Painted Shirt DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.comPainted Shirt DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.comPainted Shirt DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.comPainted Shirt DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.comAfter painting we left it to dry and then ironed it, left side up.Painted Shirt DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.com

The picture quality isn’t the best, because we finished late at night. šŸ˜€

By the way, my sister’s visit has been the reason why it has been so quiet around here. I’m working on several projects at the moment – so keep your eyes peeled!

Inspiration wall DIY

Inspiration Wall DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.comHi everyone!

I wanted to share something with you I made without using my sewing machine!

I love inspiring pictures and photographs and also keep collecting postcards from museum gift shops. I wanted to hang these up on the wall without having to make too many holes in the wall.

Here are three super easy and fun ways to decorate your walls with your inspiration or pictures.

Polystyrene Pinboard:inspiration wall DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.com

I made this useing polystyrene sheets (these were left from the packaging material of our IKEA wardrobe) and duct tape.

I covered the edges with duct tape to make them look more finished.

Now the fun part! After printing out all my favourite pics onto photo paper, I started arranging them which took quite a lot of time.

I used these short pins to pin everything in place.inspiration wall DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.cominspiration wall DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.com

Cardboard & Wrapping Paper

This one is even easier if you want to avoid the hours of arranging and pinning.

inspiration wall DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.comWith this one I used some cardboard (also left from our IKEA shopping trip), duct tape and wrapping paper.

I taped the cardboard together at the back, so there are two layers, which makes pinning easier.inspiration wall DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.com

I got this cute swallows wrapping paper for just 1 pound at Primark.inspiration wall DIY by thisblogisnotforyou.com

String & Pegs

You can either hide the nails like I did with the dried lavender or use them for hanging up jewelry.

I had a lot of fun doing these projects, but now it’s time to go back to sewing šŸ˜‰
